Q: How long does a typical paint job take?
A: On average, an exterior paint job typically takes 4-6 working days to complete, weather permitting. An interior paint job typically takes 3-4 working days. However, this could be slightly longer or shorter, depending on the scope of the project, the size of the house, the number of rooms to be painted, the type or condition of the surface, the number of required repairs, or other carpentry work.
Q: Do you brush, roll, or spray?
A: We handle projects that require brushing, rolling, or spraying alone, or a combination of any of these. In most of our exterior paint projects, we spray on sidings and soffits and then brush paint on doors, windows, and other trim. In interior paint projects, we either brush or roll.
Q: I’m selling my home. Should I repaint it?
A: It’s highly recommended to repaint your home if you’re going to put it up for sale. A fresh coat of paint is the most economical way to freshen your home when selling it. It can enhance your home’s curb appeal and give it an overall clean and fresh appearance, which may help in selling your home.
Q: How much does it cost to paint a house?
A: The total cost of a residential painting project varies from one home to another. The size of your house, the condition of the surfaces, and your own specifications can affect the overall cost of your upcoming paint project. However, we can provide you with an instant paint estimate after visiting and assessing your home and will try to match it with your budget.
Q: Do you use primarily latex or oil-based paint for houses?
A: We use latex paints for most of our residential paint projects. Most latex paints today have seen considerable improvement compared to the latex paints in the past, making them the wisest choice for general home painting applications.
Latex paints are typically easier to apply, dry a lot quicker, and are more flexible than oil-based paints. Many latex paints contain special formulations that allow them to resist fading and even mold and mildew. Not to mention that latex paints are less odorous and more environmentally friendly than oil-based paints.
On the other hand, oil-based paints are more durable and resistant to stains than latex paints. They also give a smooth and glossy finish. However, the biggest problem of oil-based paints is pollution since they contain solvents. As the paint dries, these solvents evaporate into the air as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), emitting toxic fumes which can harm your health and environment. Clean-up of these paints are also laborious since they require paint thinners. And you’ll need to dispose of those thinners responsibly – you can’t just rinse them in the sink!
Due to these concerns, oil-based paints have fallen out of favor (and some states have banned them), although its natural excellence as a paint has been unmatched. Some professional painters still prefer oil-based paints over latex. However, most latex paints today are almost as durable as oil-based paints.
While oil-based paints are not recommended for interior painting – especially if your room lacks proper ventilation – they’re generally safe for exterior painting. However, there’s no doubt that latex paints have grown more popular in recent years, making them the only suitable choice for most residential paint projects.
Q: What if it rains when painting outside?
A: Bad weather is one of the most notable challenges in exterior painting. It is a factor that professional painters must navigate in order to successfully complete an exterior paint project. We follow weather forecasts closely. If the forecast predicts rain, or if rain suddenly occurs in the middle of the day, we will stop working for that day and hope for a better weather tomorrow.
